Investigation on environmental information in schools

The most important means the Ministry of the Environment can use when it comes to environmental education is to ensure that the schools have good access to information, which is quality controlled. The Ministry wanted to find out to what degree the schools have access to environmental information and therefore carried out an investigation in September 1999.

Environmental information is defines as information on the following themes: conservation of nature, outdoor recreation, pollution, waste and recycling, energy and indoor climate, cultural heritage and -protection, chemicals threatening to health and environment, land-use and social planning, development of towns and cities, Plan and Building Act, and genetic issues.

Questionnaires were sent to all schools in Norway - primary and lower secondary schools and secondary schools - a total of 4100. Feedback Research and Consulting composed the questionnaire and analysed the data.
